Cellphones, money, experimental format changes....err, right...and Eden of the East.

Cellphones. They came from nowhere and rapidly since then have been changing our world. I often wonder whether it be for better or for worse. It seems like over time they have grown at insane levels, from those bulky handsets, to the smartphones we waste hours playing guess the emoji on today.

What if our phones could grant our every wish, with the only condition being that we use them to "better the world for the good of mankind"? Oh and if you can't, or refuse to do so, you die. Let's disregard how open ended that sounds. Confused? Maybe this will help.

Hey, you twelve people, from here on you have 10 billion yen to save the country, and if you don't I am gonna send someone to murder your ass.

Come to think of it, if you could rule the world with a cell phone, would our world be ruled by psychotic teenage girls? would that 10 billion be used on Farmville credits or whatever we call them?

Nah.....I'm sure it will be fine...

Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden)

Episodes: 11, 2 Movies, and one re-edit (Our first with movies and a re-edit!!!!!)

Movie 1: The King of Eden (Higashi no Eden Gekijōban I)

Movie 2: Paradise Lost (Higashi no Eden Gekijōban II: Paradise Lost)

This Anime deserves kudos for how it handled the movies. Movie 1 is a direct continuation of the anime, and movie 2 is a direct continuation of movie 1, so make sure you watch them!

Re-edit: Eden of the East: Higashi no Eden Soushuuhen: Air Communication: The entire anime retold in about 41 minutes. This comes complete with commentary, and answers a LOT of the questions you will undoubtedly have by the end of the anime. I personally recommend you watch it AFTER watching the anime. Some stuff is added, some stuff is removed. so you know... Enjoy it.

[if you want to know more about Air communication, check this out and make sure to read the first review by Demi_V: http://myanimelist.net/anime/6927/Higashi_no_Eden_Soushuuhen:_Air_Communication

Eden of the East is an interesting one. We follow two souls who as fate would have it, meet up in a most unexpected place. Their goals align, and hand in hand they work to make Japan a better place. How? Together with several NEET* Their goal is to make Eden of the East a reality.

I see you there. You are scratching your head, wondering "THAT DESCRIPTION IS SO VAGUE!!!! WHAT IS EDEN OF THE EAST!!?" well if you would be quiet and let me finish, you would already know.

Eden of The East - The name of the website run by the NEET group vaguely mentioned above. It is essentially a database, using images and information to identify just about everything. In its infancy, the company was used for recycling, and the engine could be used to find uses for the junk that people would throw away, re purposing just about anything imaginable. After awhile, wanting to expand, the database grew to include people, for the purposes of dating, and then over time, after much support and effort, became an all encompassing database of everything, free to the world, and for the good of everyone. (So it's Google in a few years when Google Love is released.)

We are going to refer to the group of NEETS as "Project Eden." Is that right? No? It is Eden of the East? Well Project Eden sounds cool and we are using it.

Just in it for the review? Click Here!

Members of Project Eden include:

Akira Takizawa - (Selecao #9)

Hm? There you go interrupting me again. I am trying to tell you about Akira, and you are asking me what a selecao is. Impatient. Fine, we will run this YOUR WAY.

Samsung Galaxy 12.
Selecao (cell eh sow [like the pig])  - 12 people chosen by a mysterious man named Mr. Outside to better the nation of Japan. They are people who he has deemed both worthy and capable of the task. They are all granted 10 billion dollars (remember my intro?) to do with as they please towards this end. Any and all requests are made possible by Juiz (jew E's), an assistant to whom all selecao have access using their special magic super phones, brought to you by Noblesse. Need a body hidden? Juiz. Need a tank delivered to your home? Juiz. Need to build a pool on top of your house complete with a strip mall that has only stores that YOU like? Juiz. How about a foot massage?

Don't forget though, if you spend all your money, you get to be dead. HAVE FUN!!!

Huh? No. You don't get to know who Mr. Outside is. Watch the anime.

Now then. On to what I Want to talk about.

Members of Project Eden Include:

What are you wearing, Jake from State Farm?
Akira Takizawa - (Selecao #9)

Hobbies/Skills: Movies, Movie Buff.

Misc: He has a sweet motorcycle, backer of Eden of the East

In this story, Akira is our first protagonist.

A Japanese boy who was raised in Manhattan. He was raised by his mother, Aya, who would often  send him off to watch movies alone..Except one. Dumbo, because for some reason THAT was the only movie she could stand. Eventually they decided to move back to Japan, the reasons are never specified. One day Aya goes out shopping, and disappears.
I hearded that you big jerk!
Akira has no memory of what happened to her. Forced to raise himself, he eventually he grew up to be a newspaper delivery boy, which is of course everyone's dream. Eventually he finds himself back in America, this time in Washington D.C. with no memories (other than memories pertaining to movies, interestingly), no clothes, a gun, and a strange cell phone. Having no idea who you are can be tough, especially when the clues lead to "Terrorist"

Stop talking about my brother in law. :l
Saki Morimi - Second protagonist

Hobbies/Skills: Baking (not really showcased much)

Occupation: Former student, member of project Eden)

Misc: In the beginning of the series, she is in love with her brother in law, just saying.

Have you ever fallen in love with a voice*? No? Yeah.. Me either.. Saki is a genuine sweetheart. She is smart, caring, and cute. She gets the short end of the stick often, and you can't help but feel genuinely bad for her. One fateful day, Saki is saved from trouble by a naked, confused, but still pretty good guy Akira, who happens upon her pissing off the secret service. From there they become fast friends, and as fate would have it, they end up needing each other. Aw. Saki kind of specializes in creativity, and is a big part of why Eden of the East took off, being the primary reason word spread about the project. Saki is a prideful individual, who hates living with her sister and brother in law because she doesn't like feeling like a mooch, and also again, the brother in law thing.

Now, on to the NEET. There are quite a few so I will keep descriptions brief.

Jobs are hard. Know whats easier? Magic search engine.

Kazuomi Hirasawa - The leader of Project Eden, it was originally his idea, his dream to create a paradise for the NEET. He put together a team of other NEET and a few others to make his dream a reality. Kazuomi is not quick to trust people, as seen by his initial distrust of Akira. He takes great pride in his team, and makes certain they know it.

I want cookies... *sigh*
Mikuru Katsuhara - ( Micchon, Mi-Tan)

Hobbies/Skills: Hacking, Programming

Misc: She is the one who actually programmed Eden of the East

Miichon is very dedicated to project eden, and is brains behind the engine itself. She seems to be the youngest of the group and could be considered a child prodigy. Despite her intellect, sometimes her age shows in her childlike behavior.

Is...is he wearing makeup?
Satoshi Osugi

Hobbies/Skills:  I don't really know. I saw him drink one time and uh..he can walk pretty normally?

Misc: Hopelessly in love with Saki, not technically a NEET because he has a job.

Osugi Osugi... hm.... Lets be honest, he is a bit of a nobody. He does not trust Akira, and a big part of that is because Saki's eyes are on Akira and not him. However he means well, and just wants to make sure Saki is safe. I know Osugi, unrequited love sucks.

Khakis.
Haruo Kasuga

Hobbies/Skills: He seems like hes semi intelligent, probably.

Misc: Likes to hide in desks.

He likes to hide in desks. Yes, that is it. Moving on.

See?
Sis

Hobbies/Skills: Used to have a CDL.

Misc: The oldest member of the group, has very weird, erotic tastes which unsettle just about everyone.

Sis plays the role of Kazuomi's assistant. She often provides emotional support to the entire team. She is also quite experienced, and is quite intelligent as well. Though she only 31, she looks much, much older.

As always, there are plenty more characters to discover, (Even a few NEET I didn't talk about! Get out there and discover them!)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talk about a long character list. Jeesh, and that isn't even half of the characters! But we got through it. And we had fun. Right?

This anime has it all, deep characters, mystery, a good romance element, and it leaves you asking so many questions, right up until the end. I can't express how happy I felt watching this one, I can't even fully explain why. When I first turned it on, I was a bit reluctant based on the art style, but from the moment it began, I was hooked. Who are the rest of the selecao? What is their goal? I urge you to go find out. 10/10

Oh...and Saki's voice** ^-^

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: Josei - "woman", "female", "feminine") usually it is an anime centered around a female protagonist or co-protagonist.

2: NEET : Not in Education Employment, or Training. (Basically someone who's not in school and has no job)

3: This pertains to the English Dub. (Normally I prefer subs, but there ARE some notable exceptions)
