School Days
Episodes: 12 and 2 OVAS
I wanna take a second to mention that the ovas are REALLY weird and have nothing to do with the story, but if you want to watch them, you might as well, they are...different.
Age Rating: Teen 17+ (You aren't going to understand why for a LONG time)

In School Days we follow along with a boy who is very bad at people. He falls in love with a girl, and every day he stares at her on the train. Upon overhearing a rumor from classmates, he snaps a picture of her on his phone and makes it his cellphone wallpaper because keeping it hidden from your crush for a certain period of time means you will end up together. Unfortunately for him, someone does see it, and instead of banking everything on superstition, she does everything she can to convince him to stop being an awkward moron, and to assist him in getting the girl. From there...we prepare for a long ride as the plot train derails into madness.
I bet you have so many questions. All things in good time, remember?
This time I highly recommend sticking around for the characters, rather than skipping straight to the review, however if you do read about the characters, just know that these particular character reviews may contain mild spoilers.

Don't play dumb, you know what you did. |
Interests/Skills: Well, he's into girls. Like, really into them. He is really good at pissing me off.
Misc: Like, a lot.
Makoto.. perverted just doesn't work for him. Never before have I absolutely hated a main character, or even a supporting character (except Peggy Hill from king of the hill -_-) quite this much. He is the PROTAGONIST and you want to root for him, but then you are like, you may very well be the dumbest, most frustrating person I have ever seen. He also often pushes for more physical contact than is often appropriate.
Ehehe... |
The prey?
She's so in love. |
Interests/Skills: Very intellectual
Misc: The girl on the train. Very reclusive and shy, loves horror movies, prone to going full on yandere*
Kotonoha is initially introduced to be a very shy girl, and much like the wonderful Yuuno from "MM!" she has androphobia*. This is in contrast to Makoto above who, IF YOU WERE PAYING ATTENTION, you would know is all about not giving a girl personal space. She nonetheless develops a very close bond to Makoto and is passionately loyal to him, no matter how terrible of a person he is.
But would a beast be satisfied with just one meal?
She even LOOKS like a good friend. |
Interests/Skills: She is a semi-decent matchmaker, and is good at making friends.
Misc: The girl who saw Makoto's phone.
Every night needs a day, and here we have the energetic Sekai. Sekai often puts others before herself, and as a result, often finds herself getting hurt for the sake of others. She is a very close friend of Makoto, and is a big part of the reason he was able to break out of his reclusive shell. Despite his flaws, Makoto and Sekei become very fast friends as she helps him get, and keep the girl. Wanting him to be the best he can be for Kotonoha, she decides to teach him everything she can about how to treat a woman.
But what happens when he turns his gaze her way?
If I wrote about everyone in this school, Makoto might go on a feeding frenzy, so watch the anime and discover them for yourself!

I have been hinting at this here and there throughout this review, but this anime is ALL about the ending. Even if you hate the anime, watch it through, just to get there. You need to stick this out, because as far as endings go, this one is just so one of a kind that you DO NOT wanna miss it. This anime was work for me. I have talked in the past about anime I could not put down (Attack on Titan) but this is one that I HAD to watch in increments to keep my emotions in check.
There were so many times that an episode ended on a cliffhanger, and I was like... Nope, can't handle that right now, GFY till next week. Then came the ending. I arrived at it, and I didn't touch it for something like... Two weeks? Then I did. I stared at the "finished episode screen" for something like a full minute and I did nothing, I said nothing, just stared wide eyed.
After a long while, I sat back and I thought to myself... "Worth it."
And that ladies and gentlemen, is School Days.
6/10
The games this is based off of? Just don't. Let's just say if this anime is a thunderstorm in a bottle, the games are 2012.

1. A Japanese term for a person who is initially very kind, loving, caring, and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) they really, truly like and care about a lot before their purely intense romantic, love, admiration and devotion becomes mentally destructive in nature, often through over protectiveness, violence or brutality. (courtesy of the school days wiki, because I couldn't be bothered to explain it myself)
2. Afraid of men.
Authors Note: This review is pretty lacking in images because most of them would spoil the ending. I also know this is a short post, but again, I had to tread egg shells to not reveal the ending of this anime, just...go watch it. I will make it up to you, I promise.
